We fitted Alyans XT2 Side Steps onto our VW Volkswagen T5 Transporter Campervan today. Here’s a gallery of photos showing the process.
Removal of the plastic splash guard from the Campervan.
Instruction, bolts and brackets.
Quite a complex fixing mechanism.
Inserting the chassis bolts was tricky at the fronts, there isn’t much room to insert the steel bars and then using a wire system (provided) to pull the bolts down through the square steel bars provided. These are fitted into existing holes in the chassis.
Adding a bit of copper grease.
The view without the side steps fitted.
Some angle grinding was required on two new middle brackets where the bodywork was deeper than the bracket allowed (variances in the build of the van). These where then quickly sprayed over.
How the bracket fits underneath.
Cutting the splash guards to accept the new brackets.
Cutting the splash guards to accept the new brackets took a bit of time and the instructions had the wrong dimensions. We offered up the guards and marked them first rather than rely on the dimensions provided. I wonder if I had LWB instructions instead of SWB.
The finished side step installed.
