We’ve just returned from a three night break at the River Dart Country Park Campsite and managed to go outside of the school holidays as the school had Thursday and Friday as inset days. We went in the campervan with two other families who were in a caravan and a tent (6 adults, 6 kids) – each allocated pitch was one of the biggest I’ve been on. The place was empty on the Thursday and Friday (June) and we had a LOT of space to ourselves and made use of the Country Park’s (inclusive) outdoor river/water features.
On the Saturday (as predicted) the site was pretty full, but the paid for attractions were still empty! the Dare Devil high rope walks are amazing and well worth a go for the extra £14.
The bar is good with an outside area and the food is good if you can’t stand another BBQ at your tent. Washing and toilet facilities were great with the only issue being that the constantly cut grass by the tractor is not collected and thus makes it way into the toilets (there is a mop provided). People with walking problems will need to ask to be sited near a block as I needed to use a BMX each time I needed to go!
It’s not the cheapest campsite if you are just there to camp, but it’s a great day out for all the family (in good weather) and with all the attractions available it becomes great value for a family.
